The Midnight Meat Train

Uncovered Film Review

Clive Barker's The Midnight Meat Train
This movie is crazy, bloody, cool... everything that I wanted it to be. So why has it had such a tough road? I see no reason why or how this should have had such a hard time getting released*. We could speculate for days, but I'd only go so far as to guess that Lionsgate wanted to focus on getting some other "higher-profile" movies out the door in time for Halloween, such as Saw 5.

Whatever the case may be, The Midnight Meat Train lives and dies with Vinnie Jones' delightful silent performance as a bloodthirsty serial killer. To be able to get this close to the bad guy can sometimes ruin a horror movie, but never does Meat Train go too far in that direction. Expertly, just enough of everything is shown, without going too far overboard at the end. When this movie gets released, it will be a big hit in the horror genre, I'm hoping in the way that Saw I was revolutionary for shining a light on the more independent aspects of the horror film world. Hopefully it can bring just as many sequels as the Saw series. It certainly leaves an opening for that.
